Nadia Ali/Runaway

Check out Nadia Ali’s new site (from iiO) with some exceptional backing music, if I do say so myself. I’m currently working on an edit version of my mix of ‘Runaway’ for them to use in live shows. It’ll be just a pared down version of the regular mix, but I’m going to try and put in a couple surprises since I know it will be specifically for live performance use.

A friend tells me they think they heard Chris Fortier play one of the ‘America’ remixes on his XM show Friday night.. I don’t have XM myself, so I can’t confirm and haven’t talked to Chris in a few weeks, but if so, that’s very cool and cheers Chris!

The IIO remix is also around now, on promo vinyl and on Beatport .. Of course, the Evolved mix seems to be the bigger selling mix on Beatport, which is probably to be expected.. Their mix is good in a standard sort of way – it’s mixable, throbby, and will fit a dj mix easily.. My mix is mixable, yet challenging for a dj to utilize to its full potential.. In other words, you don’t just throw it into any part of the mix – you’ve got to have a bit of a plan.. If it’s used correctly though, at the right time in the right place, it can be far more rewarding than just playing a steady stream of average tracks that are all easy to mix and easy to "understand"..

Beatport seems down at the moment upgrading their site, but give a listen to the mix and buy it if you wanna support risk-taking in modern dance music.. I don’t make anything extra for the sale of the MP3 or vinyl, so I’m not pushing it for monetary gain – I’m pushing it to try and influence people with some different ideas..

America Sticker

This is the graphic design of the sticker I did for the cover of the "America 2005" release. It shouldn’t be too much longer before that one is out. I used the Thomas Jefferson quote at the bottom of the sticker – I think clicking on the image should bring it up full-size so it can be read.

America Remixed – Web Exclusive

So I remixed Kobbe & Nitro’s ‘America’ a little while back with the intention it would be out before the elections. It’s still not out, and I don’t know when the label is going to be able to get it out, so I have an *alternate* mix for release on the web exclusively. This is an entirely different mix than will (hopefully) be released on vinyl, but I’m very proud of both.

So grab it while you can. It’s angry and it doesn’t hold back.

Finished my remix of Kobbe & Nitro’s infamous "America" track a couple weeks back. We’ve gotten acetates back, and the final release should be around any day. In an election year like this, I’m not gonna tell you who to vote for, but I just want to express how important it is to educate yourself on the candidates. Do so on the internet and other various sources, and don’t rely too much on TV news. See the movie "Orwell Rolls in His Grave" for details on that.

Also just finished my remix of Iio’s upcoming "Runaway" release tonight. No word on if it will be on the main release, or possibly a limited type thing, but I think it’s a fantastic mix that pushes the envelope on several levels and makes some more headway in helping define a new/unique sound in dance music. For such a well-known group like Iio I tried to pay special attention to giving my mix a true "street-cred" attitude – in other words, I feel I didn’t try to make it more commercial because of who they are. In fact, this mix may be less commercially based than most would expect. I used the full vocal, but if I can find time I may do a dirty dub of it.

Global DJ Broadcast

Sasha used ‘Snake’ for his Global DJ Broadcast set a couple weeks back. Very nice mix overall – I wasn’t aware that he was playing it, but since he used it on the radio show, I would assume he’s playing it out live. So if you see him on his Involver tour, maybe you’ll hear it live. You can also probably grab the full MP3 of his Global DJ Broadcast set at Djmixes2k. If you have bittorrent, and head to their bittorrent forums, there should be a link to grab the mix there.

It’s very cool to get so much play from a track that was actually composed about 2.5 years ago. Admittedly, it was only just recently released, but it shows I’m thinking a bit ahead of the curve musically. Times have been very slow on the composition front, but a few things should be completed soon, with the same commitment to forward thinking.

Production/Release Update

Tons of stuff in the works right now. Just finished a cheeky little bootleg that’s getting a lot of attention but I don’t want to go into details until it’s officially out. Hardware played it last week in Miami at NV and it was one of the big tracks of the night though – more details soon. Currently finishing up another little bootleg as well which will come out with a mix from Gene Carbonell on the opposite side.

Also still in production: remix of Shawn Astrom’s ‘Fatale’, remix of Austin Leeds’ ‘Yellowtail’, co-producing a track with Hardware for the ‘Hardware & Kelly D Present Metafakt’ EP, and now one of the biggest yet, remixing Kobbe & Nitro’s ‘America’ for a new US release of the legendary track. (“I wanna hear an American Poem!”)

Not to mention the classic ‘Snake’ is now released on upfront white label, and available from many of the main upfront shops: Essential Groove, Plastic Fantastic, Hooj.com, 3 Beat, & Tune Inn. I’m surprised it’s getting so much attention because it was originally produced quite a while ago, but with trancey/melodic progressive (Porter, Panoptic, Dekay, etc) being one of the big sounds of ’03, we thought we’d finally make it available with a brand new Astrom mix.

Krome Ave Remix Out Now

Kelly D remix of Krome Avenue’s Gazza Strip caned by a bunch of the A-list DJs including Chris Fortier. For those who like trivia one of the most famous buildings on Krome Avenue in South Miami is the “detention center” that houses illegal aliens, etc.
